This year’s fair was arranged to coincide with the 60th Zanzibar revolution day celebrations. On January 12, 2024, Zanzibar marked the 60th year after the revolution, which marked the freedom of the Isle. On this article, we share our observations, experience and analysis of the fair

Local contents

This fair was mainly organized by the Tanzania Trade Development Authority, also known as TanTrade (https://www.tantrade.go.tz/ ). TanTrade is the Tanzania Government body vested with powers to regulate activities related to both internal and external trade. As such, TanTrade promotes business both internally and externally. Interestingly, TanTrade organized for and provides space for Tanzanian companies with upcoming products in the market to be displayed as an example of business potential that Tanzanian companies have. The company representative was able to meet and siacuss business opporturnities with these companies, in particlar Livy Africa (left), manufacturers of Chocolate and other cocoa products in Mbeya. Livy Africa, trading as Mababu chocolate has managed to establish business, starting from engaging local farmers in Kyela who cultivates cocoa. Instead of exporting cocoa beans, Livy Africa invested in manufacturing chocolates in Mbeya. This adds value, not only to farmers in Kyela but also to the whole Chocolate production chain in Tanzania. Speaking to Ms. Naomi Mwasambili who is the Managing Director of Livy Africa, she acknowledged the guidance and support of TanTrade in the manufacture, packaging and sales process. Her experience and journey in branding the chocolates is a testimony to the potential that Tanzanian companies has in promoting local business to an international level.

Regulatory authorities

As part of the fair, the Government of Tanzania and Zanzibar had organized a meeting for all heads of government corporations (Government to Government (G2G) meeting. This was a good opportunity to connect with leaders and establish potential collaboration. The meeting targeted at analyzing corporation’s contribution to the development of Zanzibar at its celebration of its 60th years of Revolution commemoration
